A cemetery, or graveyard is a spatially defined area where the remains of dead people are buried. They are very commonly filled with headstones, otherwise known as gravestones or tombstones, that could be used as barricades or some other line of defense if there is no alternative.

Cemetery

Contrary to popular belief, graveyards are usually considered a haven from zombies. It takes only a few hours from "death" to reanimation, and it typically takes a few days to organize a burial. Thus, there have been no reports of a zombie reanimating in a coffin. Furthermore, zombies have no reason to invade graveyards because they are vast stretches of abandoned land. Even if a zombie reanimates in a cemetery, the only danger would be if it resurrects during a burial. In such a scenario, it would most likely animate in the coffin, and to get out, it would have to claw through six feet of dirt and a foot of steel.

Advantages[]

  • A cemetery is spacious, allowing for construction on houses and other essential buildings if the headstones are removed
  • Unless a funeral service was held on the day of the outbreak, not many undead will be lurking around in a cemetery, because of the lack of humans
  • Most cemeteries usually have fences surrounding them
  • Valuable items may be found in the graves.
  • Corpses can be used as fertilizer for crops.

Disadvantages[]

  • Supplies will be scarce in a cemetery.
  • The presence of the dead buried underground may cause a problem in farming and underground wiring and piping.
