Dr. Albert Wesker is a fictional character and one of the major antagonists of the Resident Evil Franchise, serving as a virologist and later, bio-terrorist.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

While much of his early life, even his real name remains unknown, Wesker inherited intellectual genes, which gave him an advantage. It was also the reason that he was taken at a young age by agents of Dr. Oswell E. Spencer, being raised within the Spencer Foundation. He, along with several other likeminded intelligent children were raised to become Spencer's new race of advanced humans, who he could infect with a modified strain of the Progenitor Virus. He was given the finest education that money could buy and eventually tended college, graduating at the age of 17.

Umbrella Career[]

Wesker was then found and hired by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals in 1977, due to his outstanding academics, where he and others like him were brought to a company-ran boarding school. This school taught him many facets of aggressive and inhuman values necessary to allow them to excel in the company's viral weapon research. While most were considered lackluster, Wesker and an 18 year old William Birkin were the only 2 exceptions, showing a ruthless character for their research. It was then Dr. James Marcus took interest in the 2 rising stars, earning his trust. Due to many scandals and cover ups, the school was closed down come year's end and both Wesker and Birkin were given positions at the Arklay laboratory, just outside Raccoon City.

Wesker's assignment started as soon as his arrival to the laboratory and both prodigies were able to successfully splice genes from the Ebola virus into a stolen strain of the T-Virus, which bypassed the immune system better and allowed for the subject to survive the infection, resulting in the creation of zombies. It was due to Spencer's rejecting of the virus being used to kill, that paved the way for future research into the virus. Research into the T-Virus progressed well, however created decent B.O.Ws with sub-human intelligence, resulting in the company to pressure both men into newer research. In 1988 however, Spencer ordered the assassination of Dr. Marcus, which Wesker and Birkin were present for and stole his data, which was 10 years of research that the later doctor kept to himself. The Tyrant Project presented a major step in the project, but because the current virus at the time gave advantageous abilities to one in ten million people, the project was stalled until a new strain could be made to make the production of Tyrants easier and then clone them.

In order to work around this issue, they gained a favor from Spencer, for a more intelligent B.O.W, which led to them obtaining a parasite from Umbrella Europe, the Nemesis-Alpha, which they hoped would allow them to solve the issue of the intelligence, as well as allowing the weapons to be trained. Once the parasite was obtained, it was implanted into Lisa Trevor, who was already a mutated human at the time. Trevor's immune system however, killed the parasite, but led to the discovery of the G-Virus, leading to Birkin being transferred to the NEST facility in Raccoon City nearby. Wesker would then leave the lab as well, beginning his investigation into why Spencer preferred to fund the G-Virus, as it was not worthy of bio-weapon development. As a result, he took up a position in the intelligence bureau to find answers. Following his departure from Umbrella, Wesker took on several other jobs throughout the 1990s, such as being a member of the US Army, working in their own illegal experiments with bio-weapons, as well as a mole. It was also during this time he became briefly and sexually involved with an Edonian woman that had the last name Muller. The relationship didn't last long and he wasn't aware of her pregnancy with his child.

In 1996 however, Wesker would be reassigned to work for a privately-funded special police force in the Raccoon City Police Department, referred to as the Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S). S.T.A.R.S was a private force for the company, who took on domestic terrorism and their way to keep the police from investigating the company. Wesker was made captain of Alpha Team and given seniority over Bravo Team captain Enrico Marini. It was also during this time, that Wesker, along with fellow S.T.A.R.S members Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Chris Redfield, tested a new sidearm for S.T.A.R.S members, eventually approving of Joseph Kendo's new Beretta 92F Custom 'Samurai Edge' pistol.

Betrayal (1998)[]

In the summer of 1998, a significant upset in Umbrella's plans occurred in Raccoon City, as the newer Epsilon Strain of the T-Virus began infecting Arklay Laboratory personnel. This resulted in the guards posted there to begin executing escaping employees. Wesker and Birkin would return following the raising of the alarm to evacuate cloned embryos of the T-002 Tyrant, with Wesker ordering that all phone calls be forbidden, reducing the spread of any information leaking. Several Cerberus B.O.Ws did escape and began killing people within the Raccoon Forest. Those who survived the attack and were infected, would later go onto kill and infect others, which resulted in a total of at least 20 people dying. People suspected that a cult was within the area and due to backlash from the press, the R.P.D handed this case over to the S.T.A.R.S team. Umbrella HQ would then produce the X-Day plans, which Wesker would have to not only to collect the remaining embryos, but also let his teams become victims to the B.O.Ws for combat data. His final order was to destroy the lab and leave no trace of the virus. On July 23, Wesker would sabotage the helicopter engine of Bravo Team, preventing their escape, leading to Alpha Team to begin an investigation.

As he prepared with S.T.A.R.S, Wesker and Birkin had other matters to attend to, including the oversight of re-opening of the executive training school, to compensate for the loss of the laboratory. A Nascent mutant leech colony however, attacked two armed investigation teams, before attacking an Umbrella-owned train, carrying personnel to the school. Birkin and Wesker then planned to destroy the school to prevent further spread of the infection, but during this event, met with the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service executive officer, Col. Sergei Vladimir, following Umbrella HQ learning of the incident. Wesker escaped the destruction of the facility, but also found that his experience convinced him to leaving Umbrella being essential. He would then agree to employment offered to him by the rival company, in exchange for him giving them the embryos rather than Umbrella. Wesker would lead Alpha Team to the mountains and in order to better aid in his survival, was given the Prototype Virus, which would enhance his physical abilities. Wesker also threatened Barry Burton with his family's murder, in order to get him to aid in the confiscation or destruction of evidence needed to incriminate Umbrella. They would discover the downed chopper of Bravo Team, as well as run into the escaped Cerberus pack, leaving Joseph Frost killed and Brad Vickers abandoning his post.

Wesker and the others fled to the Spencer Mansion, where they separated into groups before continuing his mission. He would then find Captain Marini still alive, but injured in a tunnel, resulting in Wesker killing him. He would then go to the lab in order to awaken the Tyrant to kill the remaining members of his team. He also infected himself with the Prototype Virus prior to this and would later be confronted by his comrades, confessing his affiliation with Umbrella. He would then order the Tyrant to attack his team, only for the Tyrant to turn and stab him, as he was responsible for his role in the T-Virus project. While seriously injured, the virus in Wesker's system was successful in mutating his body and its regenerative powers saved him from death. Wesker would then awaken in the empty room, learning that the self-destruct was prematurely activated and attempted to obtain the data before making his escape. He was unsuccessful in retrieving any information or embryos due to Col. Vladimir and the RED QUEEN AI restricting his computer access, leaving him to narrowly escape the mansion and taking out Lisa Trevor in the process. Despite his failure and believing to be dead by both Umbrella and S.T.A.R.S, Wesker gained employment with the rival company.

The Organization (1998-2004)[]

Powers & Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Prototype Virus-Enhanced Physiology: Initially, prior to his infection, Wesker possessed superior genetics, which made him immune to every known viral agent, even those genetically engineered or altered. Following being injected with the Prototype Virus, Wesker's body had molded the virus to his benefit, giving him powers and abilities which made him rival even the most physically fit of humans like Chris Redfield. The only real physical side effect was the alteration to his eyes, which had a yellow or red hue. The pupils were more like slits, similar to a reptiles or a cat and whenever he felt an intense emotion like anger, they would glow brighter. His abilities are attributed to his increased metabolism.
    • Superhuman Strength: Albert possesses superior physical strength, which enables him to effortlessly lift a fully grown and physically fit male like Chris Redfield with one hand with ease. He is also capable of killing a B.O.W with a singular strike, as well as capable of intercepting and throwing missiles single-handed.
    • Superhuman Speed: One of his most notable abilities comes in the form of his impressive and yet, inhuman speed. The virus allows him to move at speeds faster than the normal human brain can calculate, typically using it to make dashes to the side to evade incoming projectiles like bullets. Whenever he moves at this speed, it looks as though he is teleporting. His reflexes are also enhanced to the same level as his speed.
    • Superhuman Agility: Wesker possesses quick and sharp senses, allowing him to easily dodge incoming fire from enemy opponents, as well as take on opponents in hand to hand combat.
    • Superhuman Leap: Wesker possesses an ability to leap from great distances and land on his feet without any damage to himself.
    • Enhanced Durability: While he typically makes sure he doesn't get hit, Wesker has been known to have taken several otherwise fatal blows prior to his death. He is capable of withstanding several thousands of pounds in steel falling on top of him, which only dazed him for a few seconds, as well as resisting the intense heat of magma when he fell into it in his final confrontation with Chris and Sheva.
    • Suspended Aging: Since being infected, Wesker hasn't shown any signs of aging. This would indicate that the virus either stopped the aging process altogether or at the very least, slowed it to a crawl. Whether he was able to actually live far longer than a normal human is unknown, as he died before 2010.
    • Enhanced Healing Factor: Wesker possessed an advanced, yet limited, healing factor, which enabled him to heal from injuries that would otherwise take a normal human a while to heal within a short time.
    • Dominant Genetics: Wesker possesses superior genetic material, allowing to override those he procreates with and that included the mother of his illegitimate son, Jake.
    • Resurrection: So long as the majority of his body remained intact, Wesker was capable of resurrecting himself.
  • Uroboros-Enhanced Physiology: During his final confrontation with Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar, Wesker willingly infected himself with the Uroboros virus. Unlike most others infected by this virus, Wesker possessed total control and utilized its power in an attempt to kill both B.S.A.A. operatives. All of his other abilities he had prior were elevated passed their limits, with the exception of his speed. While it elevated his abilities significantly, the only price to this power was the more grotesque form he took onto himself.
    • Superhuman Durability: As durable as he was prior to the Uroboros infection, Wesker's resilience skyrocketed to the point where he was capable of withstanding multiple hits to the body, regardless of their lethality. Even intense heat from magma was unable to kill him initially, instead causing him great pain.
    • Assimilation: Wesker was capable of assimilating inorganic matter into his body, such as his use of metal parts from the downed bomber as a form of crude weapon.
    • Tentacle Generation: Through pustules of the virus, Wesker was easily able to generate tentacles, which he could use to both grab his targets and even use in his attacks.
    • Limited Electrokinesis: Through the metal he assimilated, Wesker showed to have the ability to use electricity to some extent.

Abilities[]

  • Genius-Level Intellect: From the very beginning, Wesker had shown to possess impressive intellectual abilities, which served him well throughout his life. He possesses a knowledge in a variety of different fields, however his mostly pertain to virology, as well as engineering. It was through his intellect that he was able to graduate college at just 17.
  • Martial Arts: Wesker possesses an expertise in martial arts, which when combined with his powers, make him an extremely dangerous combatant.
  • Firearms Expert: Wesker possesses a knowledge in varying firearms, which likely stemmed from his time in the military and his time as a double agent for Umbrella as a member of S.T.A.R.S.

Weaknesses[]

  • Viral Instability: While the virus in Wesker's body enabled him amazing superhuman feats, it is however unstable and therefore, he needs to regularly take a serum to maintain a balance. Without it however, Wesker's abilities will be stunted.
  • Serum Overdose: The serum Wesker needs to maintain his powers, which is PG67A/W, must be administered at a certain time and in precise doses. Failure to administer the serum will stunt his abilities and an overdose will actually act as a poison, beginning to destroy him from the inside. Even after being injected with 2 doses of his serum and suffering its effects, Wesker's abilities still possesses his abilities.
  • Extreme Heat: While infected with the Uroboros virus, Wesker gained it's vulnerability to intense heat, which would eventually lead to his downfall at the hands of Chris and Sheva.
  • Exposed Organs: While infected with Uroboros, Wesker possessed glowing organs at both the front and back of his body, which are typically protected by the tentacles of the virus, but are exposed at certain intervals, allowing Chris or Sheva to damage them.
