What is the deal with discussion pages now? I can see they still exist, but are only accessible from the cleanup templates as far as I can tell. What is the encouraged way to discuss the direction/criticism of a page with the rest of the wiki? Comments section, as if we're youtube? That kinda rubs me the wrong way. Or am I just not seeing the talk page link?
They have been removed to make space for comments. The thing is comments are way more accessible and easy to use. And if you want we can hold voting to whether we keep the comments or discussion pages.
Eh. No need. I know I'm a dinosaur, and I've been away for a while. I'll try it the new way. I just think that critique of someone's efforts is a bit vulgar for improving pages on comments sections. Too harsh and public... which is one reason why youtube comments threads are like the 7th circle of hell (lol) . But hey, I'll give it a whirl. Just let me know if I overstep my bounds or violate "netiquette".
So, if I want to nominate a page for deletion, I insert the tag, and then explain myself in comments now?
No system is perfect. But it works for wikipedia. It doesn't work for us because of lack of dedicated participant involvement. Although at times (and you can check the candidates for deletion discussion page) there were times where we had a good back and forth debate about what should or shouldn't be allowed, and I think that's important. Because even if an editor is totally off base with their new page, they shouldn't have it summarily discarded without a chance to defend their work, their point of view, and also, to become informed as to what the policies they may have unknowingly violated might be. I think a comments section is a somewhat indelicate platform for that sort of thing, but maybe it's just me.
In short - 8 year olds will be 8 year olds. But sometimes, if you pull them aside and say "Here's why we can't allow this, but here's what you can do instead", and especially if it's in a more private venue, where they don't feel like they are being dissed in public.... you might have won over a new dedicated editor who is willing to learn and stick with the site down the road.
But yeah, if this is what's hot right now, I may need to learn how it works, and I'll give it a try.
I'm not sure if it's possible to search for categories. I think that the only way to find it is to look up an article that categorized under it. There are a couple of pages in the recent wiki activity that are categorized under the Rendundancy thing.
Yeah. There are actually quite a lot of articles similar to that one, and they all are basically useless. We need articles that are more specific and well-written. Do you know anyone who you think would enjoy editing on this website? Maybe they could help us.
Hello, I'm an admin Zombie wiki. I would like to help you in the design of the wiki. I would like to first know what you want to style wiki. Scary as here? Or official? I could help pick up the background, logo. Edit the title page.
Hi karanmd. I approved your request, and I'm here to help.
If you or any other admins have anything specific in mind for a background, new logo and main page update, please share those details with me so that I have a good idea of what you guys want.
In your discussion with Merrystar, I saw that you said that you like the green background. If you don't have any specific ideas for a background and want to keep the green theme, take a look at this possible background that I just put together. As you can see, it includes some zombies, but I set the transparency of the zombie image very low so that their effect is subtle but still noticeable. Let me know what you think. And of course, if you guys have something else you'd rather do with the background, please let me know.
How's this for the logo image? Most good images of barbed wire walls are from image sites (such as Shutterstock) that have their watermark covering the image, but I managed to find one without a watermark, which I used to make that.
As for the text part of the logo, what color would you like it to be?
Also need to decide on a new font. I looked at dafont.com and found a few that I think would work well. If you like any of these, let me know which one.
I think the biggest thing Zombiepedia could use to bump it up right now would be a new customized skin and main page. The main page is ok, but it is a bit dated and the green background is sort of plain and not obviously related to zombies. If you wish you can ask Wikia's community development team to help out -- this page takes requests for help with overall site design.
Hey. I'm just asking, but I haven't been very active lately because of technical problems, and I don't see Zombiepedia on the approved list anymore, but I have seen an increase in new users. Is the spotlight active, or is it still not active?
