A motorcycle is a 2 wheeled cycle powered by a small displacement (in relation to a car) 2 or 4 stroke motor hence it has better fuel economy. Motorcycles are a good way of commuting since it has the speed of a automobile while having better mobility than a car. Motorcycles come in many varieties

Sport bike[]

Sports bike

Honda CBR600RR

The sport bike is the light weight, high powered 250-1100cc motorcycle. They're very good for going very fast and extremely nimble. They can be fitted to carry a small load, and in many cases can be found in any area. Such instances are The Honda CBR600RR, Suzuki GSX-R600 and Triumph Daytona 675. How ever sport bikes are a pain in the back to ride for long time as one needs to lean on the bike to ride it. It is also quite dangerous and not very fuel friendly as they are built for speed and power rather than daily commuting. If your goal is to reach from A to B in the shortest time possible, a sport bike is valuable or else stay away from it.

Touring bike[]

A touring motorcycle is a type of motorcycle designed for long-distance touring and heavy commuting. Although any motorcycle can be used to tour with, manufacturers have brought specific models designed to address the particular needs of these riders. Common to the touring motorcycle models is usually large cover fairings and windshields (to offer a high degree of weather and wind protection), large capacity fuel tanks (for long ranges between fill-ups), engines offering lots of low-end horsepower, and a more relaxed, more upright seating position than sport bikes. Touring bikes also usually comes with Storage boxes and can be valuable in transporting ammo and food. These bikes are highly recommended in an EOTW situation.

Cruiser[]

Harley-Davidson-Motorcycles

Harley Davidson , one of the leading cruiser brands

Honda valkyrie

Honda Valkyrie cruiser

These motorcycles mimic the style of American machines from the 1930s to the early 1960s, such as those made by Harley-Davidson, Indian, and Excelsior-Henderson, even though they have benefited from advances in metallurgy and design. If compared to cars this will be a limousine or luxury car. The riding position always places the feet forward. Usually the hands are up and the spine erect or leaning back slightly (high bar) ,or the hands near the chest level and the back in a relaxed position (flat or tracker bar) which some riders find to be more comfortable for long-distance riding. Some also comes with back rest for more comfort. This position allows greater long-distance comfort, with some compromise of control. However cruisers have quite high fuel consumption and very large in size. This makes cruisers less ideal than touring bikes. But still its one of the best Bikes for EOTW or Apocalypse scenarios with the added benefit of looking cool (boost in morale and can help greatly in preventing survivors guilt ,or depression).

Chopper[]

Chopper motorcycle

Honda fury , a chopper example

Choppers are Cruisers with unnecessary parts (usually the plastic covers) removed or "chopped" off (hence the name Chopper) Choppers are debatable on their suitability on a ZA or EOTW scenario as choppers vary between use and makers. Common choppers are modified or custom Harley Davidson fat boy and breakout , and the Honda Fury.

Overall the benefits of choppers are similar with cruiser , that is large cargo space and looking cool.

Disadvantages are high fuel consumption , extremely large (or long) and low maneuverability.

Dirt bike/Enduro[]

Dirt bike

Kawasaki KX250 dirt bike

Also known as rally bikes, trail bikes, motocross bikes or off-road bikes. Dirt bikes are light and very agile and somewhat fuel saving. Dirt bikes uses low displacement 2 strokes or 4 stroke engines. Dirt bikes are fast and can maneuver on tough terrains such as dirt , snow and gravel. But the problem with dirt bikes are they are design to rev and squeeze out power on high revolutions, which can wear out the engine (this is worsen when the engine used is a 2 stroke, 2 strokes require a mix of 2 stroke oil with fuel generally 32:1 ratio of fuel to 2 stroke oil which would make them even less efficient for regular use). Dirt bikes also have low cargo space and are slower than others on straight roads. Most dirt bikes also don't have mirrors and lights so modifications might be needed to suit for a EOTW scenario. A dirt bike is highly recommended on those who have bases in irregular terrains i.e. in the jungle , desert or on a mountain where paved roads doesn't exist there.

Underbones[]

Underbone motorcycle

Underbone bikes are somewhat popular in more packed countries typically in Asia but in some nations in Europe as well. Underbones are lightweight small displacement bikes that are designed for daily commuting. Underbones , if on a scale is a solid 5 out of ten, its not very good but you can't go wrong with it. Underbones can go quite fast up to 140km/h (some up to 160). Underbones have medium cargo space, medium comfort and good fuel consumption.

Scrambler[]

Ducati scrambler

Ducati 1100 scrambler

Now think of scramblers as the child of Cruisers/touring bikes and dirt bikes while learning from the Choppers. Scramblers is comfortable on road and has the ability to go off road while having somewhat high speed. Scramble bikes are tough, reliable, and proven through multiple wars by motorized infantries. Some popular scrambler motorbikes are Yamaha SCR950 , Ducati desert sled , Indian FTR 1200 and Harley mx1000. Scramblers have good cargo space , medium fuel mileage , fast speed and the ability to go off road which almost makes it the best bike to have in EOTW. Too bad its very hard to find one.
