Rabbit starvation (or Protein Poisoning) is a form of malnutrition that can result from consuming exclusively meat. The condition arises from the body's inability to digest meat without substantial quantities of fat. If insufficient amounts of fat are consumed, the body gets no benefit from the meat, regardless of the total quantity of meat consumed.

A human may starve to death even when gorged on lean meat.

This is a concern when subsisting on many varieties of game and humans. Rabbits do not contain enough fat for proper digestion and require the addition of fats in preparation for consumption. When consuming starved humans, the same condition arises, unless sufficient care is taken to secure the fats and lipids required for digestion.

In humans, marrow taken from the bones will provide sufficient fats if other sources fail.
